The Fonna ski resort in Norway confirms that it will open its ski lifts from May 1.
They were scheduled to open on April 13, but due to the corona virus crisis, they have postponed it until May 1. The season at Fonna Glacier Ski Resort will open with many restrictions and controls. For this reason, lhe Norwegian authorities have assured that no more than 300 ski passes will be sold per day and that they will only be purchased on-line in order to avoid maximum contact with other people and to keep exposure to resort staff to a minimum.
Lift usage is expected to be the same as we have seen at other ski resorts. On the other hand, the 2-person chairlift that Fonna Glacier Ski Resort has will be used if the 2 people are from the same family or live together, otherwise it will only be used individually.
What is not known is why the snowpark is not opening this year. The cafeteria will not open for the time being until it is adapted to the new situation. But there will be vending machines for drinks, sandwiches and snacks. They have some problem to open the bathrooms since they have to be adapted to be used in this new situation and they confirm that the works will be finished in about 2 weeks.
On the positive side, the resort of Fonna ensures almost 2 meters of snow at high altitudes, which ensures a good summer ski season.
